Day 31 - Whitsundys - Townsville

What we thought was going to be a quick hop, skip and a jump (280kms) from Airlie Beach to Townsville ended up taking a lot longer than it should! The amount of road works that take place on the Bruce Highway are unbelievable. 280 kilometers took us four hours of constant driving (well, including the frequent stopping for the road works LOL). Not an overly scenic route from Airlie to Townsville. We definitely feel as though we are entering the "outback" as we drive further and further up the coast of Queensland and as far as the eye can see is dry, flat plains with the occasional hill (?mountain) in the distance. We did how ever, to our surprise stumble across the Big Mango!

Arriving into Townsville at a respectable time, we set up the house and decided to head into the city to have a look around. We drove around the city and before heading back home, drove up to the top of Castle Hill to check out the view from the top; for anyone who isn't sure what Castle hill is; it is a large hill that towers over the city of Townsville. Totally amazing!

Heading back down the hill, we drove along Townsville's main drag, the Strand. Stopping off for a coffee and play for the kids. Poor Bella took a nose dive on the pavement and skun her top lip (looks fabulous in photos!), ripped her phrenulum off her top gum AGAIN and put her teeth through her lip! Our poor baby!  However, she very cleaverly didn't have a single scratch on either of her knees or legs! Nurse mama to the rescue! Ice and bandaids are a wonderful thing! Now patched up and cuddled better we decided we were all exhausted.
Tired and now injured, we decided that we had had a long tiring day driving and thought it best to head home. Pizza's in hand, back we went for some much needed R & R, including a swim in the park's pool for the Kids and Maciek. It was too cold for me LOL !!
