Day 40 - Seisa (tip of Cape York)

The internet reception is disgraceful from the tip (of Cape York) and we have been unable to do very much blogging due to it taking so long, if possible at all to upload and publish any posts. Now that i am back in civilisation (as we know it) i will blog retrospectively whilst i sit in rainy cairns. .........

Saturday 19th May...

Today we simply relaxed and explored the environment at the tip of the Cape York Peninsular. Maciek was very keen to go and visit the WWII memorial sites that were scattered around various areas near Bamaga and Injanoo. Here there are two WWII crashed aeroplanes. We feel very privledge to be able to pay our respects to the victims of both air disasters. At the DC3 site there was a large plaque and memorial site for the victims. This plane had a lot  remaning, however, the Bomber had very little remains, although still identifiable that it was in fact a plane. Around the sites of both planes there was a lot of left over rubbish (i.e. fuel cans from what we can distinguish as WWII cans, possibly close to where the air base was once during this era). We found it quite odd that there is that much rubbish left lying in the bush.

After lunch we headed down to the jetty at Seisa to try our luck at fishing. After all who has trouble fishing off the tip of Australia??! .....Not a single fish! barely even a bite. To all of those laughing out there, the local aboriginal people weren't having much luck either. As imagined, the kids got seriously bored by this and so we retired from fishing after and hour and headed of to get some ice cream and a wander around the beach. The beach was beautiful! Except for all of the rubbish that had washed up on shore. We didn't take any photos of the rubbish but did have fun collecting lots and lots of interesting shells and coral. We even found a empty shark egg! Krystian was very excited and has brought it with us to take back to school when we return.

The remainder of the day was spend getting organised ready for our big venture down from the cape towards Cairns. We are going to attempt to make a big effort and get to Cairns but will have to wait and see how the kids and the driver aka Wog are holding up. This journey if achievable is 1000kms !
